BENAMOR DUARTE STUDIO

BENAMOR DUARTE STUDIO is lead by Portuguese born architect and educator Eduardo Benamor Duarte in NYC. The studio is recognized for the design, production and exhibition of objects, installations, and landscape environments developed individually and in collaboration.

For several years, Eduardo has been using the bi dimensional transposition technique as a way to explore and investigate the prefiguration of the concept of interiority as an artifact made in full scale.
This technique aims to develop the idea of adaptation and use by transposing the registers of the figurative and geometry drawing techniques to the physical qualities of a material to become an object or space for human engagement.

Since 2011 Eduardo Benamor Duarte is an Associate Professor at the Rhode Island School of Design Department of Interior Architecture where his pedagogy engages the ideas of recursion, adaptation and reconstitution of formal, informal and informational protocols in the context of Interior Studies at large.

Eduardo Benamor Duarte graduated with a Masters of Science in Advanced Architectural Design from Graduate School of Architecture Planning and Preservation at Columbia University and a PhD from the Instituto Superior Técnico / Universidade de Lisboa. His design of public spaces, objects for the domestic environment, museums & historic preservation have been shown globally including exhibits at the Cité de l’Architecture et du Patrimoine in Paris, Memphis Museum of Art, Bronx River Art Center, Fondazione Bottari Lattes, Salone Satellite, UNESCO Forum; First Green Open Art Space, NYl Bienniale Design Saint Etienne and Experimenta in Lisbon. His work has won awards from several institutions in Europe and the US, including the Ministério da Cultura, Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation and FCT Fundação Ciência e Tecnologia.
